Bonus codes at online casinos: a practical explainer from the casino side
A bonus code is a short word that tells the cashier to attach an offer to your payment. Used well it adds play time; typed in the wrong place it does nothing at all.
What is an online casino bonus code, exactly?
It is a label the cashier recognises. Casinos run several offers at once, and the code tells the system which one you are asking for and when. Without it, the cashier treats your payment as an ordinary deposit. With it, the offer's rules are attached: a match percentage, a cap, a list of games that count and an amount to play through before bonus money becomes withdrawable.
That is why the same casino can have a welcome code, weekly deposit offers and cashback that needs no code at all. At Casino Purple, for example, the first-deposit match uses PURPLE100, while the daily cashback described on the promotions page is applied without any code.
Where do bonus codes go?
There are usually two places: a promo box on the registration form, and a code field in the cashier. The cashier one is the one that matters, because the code has to be attached to the payment itself. The order that never goes wrong:
- Open the cashier and choose the payment method.
- Enter the amount.
- Type the code and wait for it to be accepted.
- Only then confirm the payment.
Reverse steps three and four and most systems will not go back and add the offer, because the deposit has already been booked as plain cash.
What does "100%", "250%" or "400%" really mean?
The percentage of your deposit added as bonus money. A 100% code on €50 adds €50; a 300% code on €50 adds €150. The bigger number gives more to play with, and it nearly always gives more to play through as well, because wagering is usually calculated on the bonus amount. The table shows how that scales on a single €50 deposit:
| Match | Bonus on €50 | Balance to start | What grows with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100% | €50 | €100 | Smallest amount to play through |
| 250% | €125 | €175 | Two and a half times as much |
| 400% | €200 | €250 | Four times as much |
Neither end is better in itself. A small match suits someone who likes to withdraw early in a session; a large one suits someone who was going to play a long time anyway.
Which terms should I read before using a code?
- Wagering. How many times the bonus (or bonus plus deposit) must be staked before it can be withdrawn.
- Game weighting. Slots usually count in full; live tables and some low-risk bets often count for less or not at all.
- Maximum bet. Many offers cap the stake per spin while bonus money is in play.
- Expiry. How long you have to complete the wagering.
- Cash-out route. When bonus winnings turn into withdrawable cash, and the identity check before a first payout.
Read them on the casino's own promotions page on the day you deposit. Terms change, and the copy on a third-party site may be months old.
Why are codes on comparison sites sometimes wrong?
Some are simply out of date. Others belong to a different casino altogether. We see this with our own name: several domains not operated by Casino Purple advertise a "Casino Purple code" with a bigger percentage, and the button behind it opens an account at another casino. A code that is larger than the one the casino publishes about itself is the single best warning sign there is. Our list of those domains is on real vs fake Casino Purple sites.
Is it ever better not to use a code?
Yes, and casinos rarely say so. Without a code your whole balance is cash. There is nothing to play through, no maximum bet to watch and no game weighting to work around: a win can go straight to the withdrawal queue once your identity has been checked. If you mainly play live tables, or you like to stop as soon as you are ahead, a no-code deposit is often the cleaner choice.
How does this work at Casino Purple?
One welcome code, PURPLE100, typed in the cashier with the first deposit: 100% up to €2,500, with a 35% cash refund described on the promotions page if that first deposit is lost. The cashier works in euro, with a €25 floor (€30 by card or Revolut). The step-by-step version is on our PURPLE100 page, and the login guide helps if you get stuck before you reach the cashier.

Bonus code questions
Do I enter a casino bonus code before or after depositing?
Before you confirm the payment. Once the deposit is booked without the code, most cashiers will not add the offer afterwards.
Are bigger bonus percentages always better?
No. A bigger match usually means more to wager before you can withdraw. It suits long sessions more than short ones.
Can I use a bonus code more than once?
Welcome codes are for the first deposit only. Other offers may be repeatable, as their terms will say.
Why didn't my bonus code work?
The usual reasons are a typo, a deposit below the offer's minimum, or a code that belongs to a different casino.
